Environment
Integral to the overall vision of the Martin & East Group is a determination to reduce the impact that our construction activities have on the environment. A number of initiatives and processes are in place to help us achieve this, including:
- Contract Environmental Management Plans – by being involved in the development of, and compliance with, these plans, the group ensures its construction activities have the smallest possible negative impact on the environment.
- Control of emissions of plant and equipment – through effective ongoing maintenance, combined with careful selection of new equipment that uses the latest technologies for enhanced emissions control.
- Carbon footprint reduction – by setting a carbon footprint benchmark and striving to reduce this footprint through active management of key contributing factors.
- Recycling – including setting targets and the encouragement of a recycling mindset across all areas of the business, particularly:
Building sites – including, wherever possible, high volume activities such as processing rock and rubble into usable road building products and the re-use of milled-out material. Any dumping of materials will be interrogated as a matter of policy.
Workshop - Recycling of oils, used parts, metals and any other suitable waste products.
Offices - Recycling of paper, plastic, glass, and any other suitable waste products.
- Landscaping and land rehabilitation - including the creation of environments at our sites and offices that reflect an appreciation and regard for the natural environment.
